Geranium Pickup date is May 9th, Noon - 6pm

Spring is here and it's time for the Portland Garden Club's Annual Geranium Sale.  Online ordering will open on April 1st at https://portlandmigardenclub.org/geranium-sale and run through April 30th.

Colors are red, white, light pink, dark pink and salmon and the cost will be $2.50 per plant.  There will be a limited quantity, so place your order early as these beautiful plants go quickly!

Curbside pickup at the Portland Red Mill will be on Thursday, May 9th from Noon to 6pm.  Stay in your vehicle and pay with cash or check. Your geraniums will be loaded in your vehicle by one of our volunteers.

If you are interested in volunteering to assist with the sale or have any questions, please contact Cathy at (616) 284-1213.  Proceeds help us to beautify downtown Portland, have educational speakers at our meetings, and make monetary donations to local organizations.

Are you hungry for history?

“Feeding the Family” is the 2023 theme for the “Spring Into the Past” annual tour of about 30 small-town museums and historical societies that are members of the Tri-River Historical Museum Network. (This annual event held the first weekend of May received the 2021 Historical Society of Michigan State Award for Special Events/Programs.)

This year’s tour is Saturday, May 6 from 11 am to 5 pm and Sunday, May 7 from 1 to 4 pm. Most members will be open the same days and hours during this special weekend, so folks can map out a tour of nearby museums to visit on the same day.

A booklet of information is available at any member museum, or one can be downloaded at commoncorners.com. It has a handy map to plot your tour ahead of time. Other information is available at tririvermuseums.com .

You’ll be amazed at the variety of displays on the theme – from growing food on the farm – to hunting and fishing – to selling in a store – to cooking, preserving, serving food and many other creative ideas.

At the Red Mill in Portland special display(s) about Valley City Milling will be featured.

Tri-River members are located in Barry, Eaton, Ionia, Kent and Montcalm counties and have joined together to share ideas and encourage one another in their history gathering. All museums will be free during this annual tour, but donations are appreciated and are often the only income they receive.

Come and “feed your family” the history you remember or have heard about. It will give you all something to talk about for a long time! See you at the museums!

Alert: Growing Business! Mark your calendar to visit this Saturday May 3 :)

@kevin.covert and Jeremy Russo envisioned one day owning a business together. Finding the most fitting business opportunity was their biggest challenge. When they heard the possibility of G&B Pool and Spa going up for sale, they immediately knew this was a dream come true. They are currently working with the owners and have a proposed purchase date of April 2026.

In the meantime, they have been endlessly brainstorming the idea to add an additional service to G&B. They want to offer a service that will benefit the already outstanding community of Portland and other surrounding communities.

Jeremy and Kevin are proud to introduce G&B Pool and Spa and Water Conditioning. This will include the sale and installation of water softeners, reverse osmosis systems, salt sales, and whole house filters.

After extensive research they found that in Portland and surrounding areas, the most common well water issues included chemical contaminants such as PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances), high nitrate levels, arsenic, cloudy water, odors, and bad taste.

One of the many services offered will be a free in-home water analysis and consultation.
Jeremy and Kevin will be able to provide a water treatment plan specific to family needs such as the reduction of dryness and skin irritation, softer hair, better tasting water, and prolong the life of appliances.

Jeremy and Kevin invite you to their soft opening on Saturday May 3rd from 12-3pm. This event will take place at G&B Pool and Spa located at 826 E. Grand River Portland. This is a prime opportunity to come meet the water specialist themselves! The first twenty customers who order a water softener system will receive free salt for one year!
