Beat the mob and avoid those pesky aisle conversations by skipping Black Friday and instead take part in the Saturday Shop Hop this holiday weekend.

At the hop, which is returning for a fifth year in downtown Klamath Falls, indulge in a day of food, drinks and shopping as 23 local businesses playing host to the event.

“It’s such a fun day,” event organizer and proprietor of Painted Pieces Liz Nelson said. “The businesses love doing it.”

Nelson explained that five years ago when Saturday Shop Hop was first introduced, there weren’t many events downtown that acknowledged small business. “There are so many cool businesses downtown,” Nelson said. “Our downtown is really killing it. We have so many different and unique shops that are decorated; they are gorgeous. We have a lot going on in our downtown and we should be really proud of that.”

Everything seems to be fitting in well for Painted Pieces, a new collection of several artists and craftsmen in downtown Klamath Falls.

It’s also an opportunity for Liz Nelson, who runs the storefront with co-owner Joey Oates, to meet some of her online customers.

“They know who we are and it’s just so crazy,” Nelson said.

Painted Pieces has now been officially open for about a month. Before this, Nelson’s refinished furniture and other items were sold or advertised online through sites such as Facebook and Etsy.

Business conglomorate

Nelson said the storefront works with at least eight artisan businesses and crafters in addition to selling her own work. They specialize in custom-painted furniture, dog crates, home decor, clothing and other items.
