How Can I participate?

KeepItQuerque Members get 15% off Targeted Advertising with JohnnyBoards!

You've seen them - and probably read them for up to four minutes - all over Albuquerque.  In fact the Boston Globe says "This is the only place in the world people will stand in line to read advertising."

As JohnnyBoards points out "If your customers 'go' anywhere else they could be arrested!"

You can put your invitation in front of your customers using JohnnyBoards' targeting capability, and right now you can get 15% off your advertising when you help JohnnyBoards spread the word to "KeepItQuerque - buy local"

Here's how you can help and save at the same time...

Board of Directors Nominations Due September 10 - That's  Next Tuesday!

If you're reading this  you are who KeepItQuerque - buy local is working for - as well as your customers and anyone else concerned with the health of our local economy.

You are on the bus with us and now it's time to elect new board members.  The Nominating Committee will accept your nominations until September 10, 2013.

You may submit your nominations to the nomination committee chairperson (and one of our past presidents) Duane Trythall at duane@excelstaff.com

Big Data!

We all know our "cookies enabled browsers" are hard at work keeping us served with the latest advertising we apparently want.

We're also occasionally mystified as to how the cyber-servers thought to serve up that ad!

A new site now purports to explain what data is captured, who is doing the capturing, why they want which data and what they do with it.

Aboutthedata.com then offers you the opportunity to manipulate your data so you are better served.

And Aboutthedata.com offers you the chance to "opt out" with the caveat that "This will not reduce the number of ads and offers you receive, it just means that some of them may be less relevant to you."

Gaining Momentum on KIVA's Small Business Saturdays

Your independent business alliance is gaining momentum on "KIVA The Rock of Talk!"

Locally owned and independently operated 1600 AM and 95.9 FM are the home of "Small Business Saturdays," an initiative of St. Pius graduate and "Buy Local" advocate Eddy Aragon.

During the week KIVA is where Albuquerque tunes to hear Dennis Leary, Dan Patrick, Jay Mohr and more - but on Saturdays the programming is all hosted by locals with local guests!

Your colleagues have appeared on three shows already - Duane Trythall, Jeff Jinnett, Nancy Denker, Steve Keator, Martha Doster and Sam Hufnagel have all been discussing the "Whos, Whats Wheres Whens," and of course the "Whys" of Keeping It Querque (you can hear all the show segments with a quick search of the Facebook page!)

We want YOU...

Look At The Label

Across the U.S.A. people are realizing we have to look past the price tag and look at the label.  Since you're a KeepItQuerque - buy local member this may not be news to you but there is a high cost to low prices so more and more people every day are looking for a way to strengthen our local and national economies.

Alan Uke's book "Buying America Back" specifically addresses the national scale issue of sending manufacturing jobs overseas when we seek the "low price."  Just as KeepItQuerque - buy local and other Independent Business Alliances around the country celebrate "Independents' Week" and support buying locally Mr. Uke advocates the designation of a Buy American Week as well as a program of labeling goods with a "Country of Origin" label to indicate where a product comes from.

Just as we know, locally, we can't shift 100% of our budgets to local consumption Mr. Uke is also realistic about not becoming isolationist - he simply wants consumers to have the capacity to make more conscious choices - just as we do.  You can find a summary by Business Week here.

Looking For a Way To Get Involved? How 'Bout Joining Us At the Growers' Markets?

Your KeepItQuerque - buy local Board of Directors has begun to take the word to the people!  Not only are we on the radio each week, we've begun to attend some of the Growers' Markets around Albuquerque, starting with the Downtown Growers' Market.

Our neighbors who shop at growers' markets are already inclined to "buy local" so they're easy to talk to.  (We're not surprised since there is research that indicates strangers will break out in conversation a lot more at a growers' market than at a grocery store!)

Many of us have great reasons to shop at growers' markets.  With our Civic Economics Study we can give them good solid information they can share with their friends, family and neighbors.

You'll be doing a great service for KeepItQuerque, for your neighbors, for Albuquerque, and for yourself! As quoted in the Wall Street Journal on Saturday August 31, "Generosity is inherently rewarding: The brain churns out pleasurable response when we engage in it."

Contact us by sending a message from KeepItQuerque.org, messaging us on Facebook or by calling (505) 798-2587.  As we get more help we'll have more opportunities to spread the "buy local" word!

Are You Getting All You've Paid For?

Your KeepItQuerque - buy local membership comes with a killer app - the online KeepItQuerque.org directory!

If you've signed up your business is in our directory.

If you haven't used your username/password and gone in to
the Traffic Catcher System and loaded your photos, embedded your videos, enabled street view mapping you should!

"Following the three easy steps will drastically improve your LOCAL advertising results through the Area Search Engine, Mobile Applications and through traditional search engines like Google and Bing."

You can link to your social media, your blogs and your social media and blogs can link right back, all of which will help your search results!

For some of our members the directory serves as their principle online presence.

For more sophisticated members the directory is that "dot org" source they connect to for the added leverage.

Take a moment to see how easy it is - click here to get a quick explanation by ChamberNation's Richard Scully.

If you'd like you can call Clifton Chadwick at 991-3331 and make an appointment to review the process.
