EDITOR: SOCIALISM RE-DEFINED
Spoken like a true believer as seen in the Sierra Booster 27 June 2019 as written by Don McKechnie in his comment, “Socialism has developed a new meaning.” OH REALLY! Leave it to a liberal socialist and the Democratic Party attempting to change the meaning of Socialism in the English language and that of history. History lesson: Communism refers to an economic and political theory which advocates the abolition of private property, the common sharing of all resources among a group of people. Communism is often used interchangeably with the word socialism beginning in the 19th century. There is little difference between the two words. In general the word communism refers to the political ideologies that find its foundation in Karl Marx's theory of revolutionary socialism which advocates the overthrow of capitalism. This is where the ownership and government controls all production of a countries wealth, if any, resources, food, industry, work, living conditions, religious beliefs, but more importantly, their denial of your individual rights and privileges as seen in our Constitution and Bill of Rights. Under socialism/communism it would turn this sovereign nation into an established classless society, that is the vision and goal for America as seen by liberal Democrats and those seeking the highest office in the land, apparently McKechnie agrees with this philosophy. In the 20th century Bolshevism in the U.S.S.R. was and still remains a faction of the Marxist Russian Social Democratic Labor Party only a name change here and there through history has clouded these facts, but not the definition of which a single authoritarian party controls a society and social activities with the goal of following Marx's theories. If you were an enemy of the State, this philosophy fostered for the Russian people the Gulag, a government agency who overseen the Soviet forced labor camps created under Vladimir Lenin and Stalin which reached its peak in 1950 in Siberia, Czechoslovakia, Poland and Mongolia and elsewhere. This same socialist philosophy brought you Hitler's National Socialist Germans Workers Party, otherwise known as the Nazi Party which in turn brought you the holocaust and the fate of six million Jewish people in WWII. McKechnie now brings religion into the conversation stating it is the “Christian thing to do” supporting socialism? Several Popes have declared, “You cannot be a socialist/communist and be a Christian” so where does that leave these phony Democrats and their phony compassion in their new definition of the word Socialism. Venezuela, Cuba, North Korea, just to name three, socialism is certainly not working out well for those people. I could fill every page of this paper with failed socialist societies around the world as we witness these failures. Disarming citizens, reduction in civil liberties, oppression, followed by starvation results in the rise of power under a socialist government and this is what the Democrats seek for you! Keep in mind it was Democrats who brought you the Klux Klux Klan while McKechnie indiscriminately speaks of jerks owning slaves and
YES, it was the Democrats who supported slavery! You're a genus McKechnie, a tower of intellect amongst men, keep up the good work! Socialism: “The philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy.” Sir Winton Churchill

Cost of doing Government business
Letter to the Editor:
Mr. Staehle, I don't know where you get the idea that people who work for the county of Lassen are fat cats. You being a young person are not aware of the struggles we fat cat employees have had to make just to get barely above minimum wage. When I first started in law enforcement, women were paid $3.00 less an hour for doing the same job as men as well as our having to do all the paperwork too. When we filed a discrimination claim against the county, instead of raising our wages to those of the men, they lowered the men's wages to what ours were. Over ½ of the men quit saying they could not live on that. But we single women with families were expected to live on it. This county is one of the lowest paying counties in the state. They cannot keep good workers as many move on to work for the State and Federal Government who pay much better and have much better benefits. If you want to keep good help, you have to pay them a decent wage. The cost of living has not gone down and will continue to rise for the consumer, us, and for the county who pays us. Sales tax in the state is the same now as it was in 2007 and I could not find records showing when there was the last sales tax increase. That is 12 years without a sales tax increase but the County and City have had to pay increase wages and the other increased costs necessary to do business as a City and County. Now, if you are one of the nut-jobs (Tea Party or State of Jefferson people) who do not believe in having schools, law enforcement, courts, or any of the other county and city government services, then I think you need to look elsewhere; because I believe most people prefer to keep the services that we have fought to get. I think our county agencies and employees do a commendable job for the pittance they get paid and they all deserve a pat on the back for keeping everything running smoothly on the same sales tax they had in 2007, the same property tax since back in the 60's, and the income tax which has only gone up 2% since 2008. They have reached the breaking point and they need an increase or services will begin to be shut down, services we would like to keep (except maybe you Eric). I vote for an increase; it is well overdue!!
