From Board of Equalization's First District

Dear Friend,
The cornerstone of communications in any community is a good, strong newspaper. Thank you for all you do for your readers and for California.
Whether it’s covering a city council meeting or taking pictues at the local softball game, community newspapers provide the most accurate and reliable source of local news for residents.
As Vice Chair of the Board of Equalization, I represent taxpayers who read your newspaper. I believe we are partners in ensuring your readers are aware of important issues. In my case, those issues typically concern taxes - from informing residents about the fire fee to publicizing an upcoming free tax seminar in your area.
As a local business, you are doing your part to help the community through job creation. The Great Recession and our changing economy have caused ad revenues for many publications to decline. California’s business climate hasn’t made things any easier; to be successful a business like yours must navigate numerous tax laws and regulations.
Please know that my staff and I are here to help you and provide you and your readers with assistance and informtion on California tax policy.
Each and every day we have the privilege of serving
as taxpayer advocate for Californians of all backgrounds. Our goal is to ensure taxpayers are treated fairly.
Thank you for all that you do for the State of California. I wish you the best of success in your busiess endeavors.
Sincerely,
George Runner
1st District, State Board of Equalization
