Thank you so much for your recent article "A Win-Win". I congratulate all involved in the transfer of the land east of Loyalton back to decendants of the people who occupied the land prior to American and European settlement. With strong support from everyone, may the goals of the Land Trust come to fruition in the coming years.
Your article supplied geneological details of indigenous people with deep historical roots in Sierra Valley. Growing up in Loyalton, most of us knew of "Old Indian Camp" and interacted with members of that community, but I, like most people, knew few details of who was related to who and their connections with others in their communities inside and outside of Sierra Valley. My wish would be for someone to do a geneological style diagram of people who occupied Sierra Valley prior to American and European settlement as far back as possible clear up to present day. For me, I always knew who Marvin Sam, Wilbur Smith, Gilbert Sam and Bear were, but had no idea of their family connections or roots; and what of the women? Your article provides vivid details of Carmelita's life. Like the story of other groups that came to occupy the Valley, their story deserves to be told.
