State of the Union

Dear janice,

“Bigger, better, and richer than ever before!” What an opening line from President Trump's State of the Union address. I hope you were able to watch it.

I found it extremely heartening to see President Trump highlight many of the key policies that Heritage has been pushing for. Policies that have lowered inflation, secured our borders, and strengthened America's military.

On top of that, great symbols of patriotism like the several veterans honored and the US men's hockey team made for an overall great night.

But what struck me most was the Democrats' refusal to celebrate key policies that the American people want.

President Trump explicitly said, “If you agree with this statement, then stand up and show your support: The first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens.”

And the Democrats refused to stand!

They also refused to stand for the mother of Iryna Zarutska, the woman who was murdered by a criminal with over a dozen previous arrests. And they refused to stand for a 5-year-old girl who was brutally injured by an illegal alien truck driver.

This shows you where the radical Left is today. And it should serve as a reminder of why the fight to save America is so important.

Our country can protect law-abiding American citizens. Or it can protect criminals and illegal aliens.

The Heritage Foundation stands with Americans, thanks to great patriots like you.

What did you think of President Trump's speech?

Best,

P.S. This past Tuesday marked the anniversary of Marbury v. Madison, which established judicial review. This precedent has led to several historic moments of judicial review, like the overturning of Roe v. Wade. With several Supreme Court cases to be decided this year, it's always important to look back at history and remember how we got here.
