TikTok awaits Trump reprieve as China signals it is open to a deal
By Kenneth Li and Katie Paul // January 20, 2025 Reuters
Jan 20 (Reuters) - TikTok awaited an executive order granting it more time to strike a deal after President Donald Trump returned to power on Monday, as China signaled it would be open to a transaction to keep the app in the U.S. market.
The short video service used by 170 million Americans was briefly taken offline for U.S. users on Saturday, hours before a law that said it must be sold by its Chinese owner ByteDance on national security ground stook effect on Sunday. U.S. officials had said that under ByteDance, there was a risk of Americans' data being misused.
TikTok restored access on Sunday and thanked Trump for providing assurances to TikTok and its business partners that they would not face hefty fines to keep the app running. The app and website were operational on Monday, but TikTok was still not available for download in the Apple (AAPL.O), opens new tab and Google (GOOGL.O), opens new tab app stores, suggesting the two companies were waiting for clearer legal assurances.

| Amazon pauses drone deliveries for software changes; Oregon test crash ‘not the primary reason’
By Todd Bishop // January 18, 2025 GeekWire Amazon confirmed that it voluntarily paused its Prime Air drone deliveries in Texas and Arizona, but downplayed the role of a reported crash of two drones in December at an Oregon testing facility as a factor in the decision. “We’re currently in the process of making software changes to the drone and will be voluntarily pausing our commercial operations on Friday, Jan. 17,” said Sam Stephenson, an Amazon spokesperson, in a statement to GeekWire. “Our services will resume once these updates are completed and approved by the FAA.” Stephenson added, “The incident that occurred at our Pendleton, OR facility in Dec. 2024 is not the primary reason for our voluntary operational pause. Prime Air continued to deliver to customers safely and within federal compliance until we voluntarily paused the service on Jan. 17.” FULL ARTICLE HERE |
| AI Dominates 2025 Cybersecurity Predictions By John P. Mello Jr. // Jan 7, 2025 TechNewsWorld
When it comes to cybersecurity in 2025, artificial intelligence is top of mind for many analysts and professionals.
Artificial intelligence will be deployed by both adversaries and defenders, but attackers will benefit more from it, maintained Willy Leichter, CMO of AppSOC, an application security and vulnerability management provider in San Jose, Calif.
“We know that AI will be used increasingly on both sides of the cyber war,” he told TechNewsWorld. “However, attackers will continue to be less constrained because they worry less about AI accuracy, ethics, or unintended consequences. Techniques such as highly personalized phishing and scouring networks for legacy weaknesses will benefit from AI.”
“While AI has huge potential defensively, there are more constraints — both legal and practical — that will slow adoption,” he said.

Certified solutions: Industry and schools are working together to solve workforce needs By Steve Lombard // January 22, 2025 // Idaho Business Review Check out College of Eastern Idaho (CEI) and the immense progress it has made under the leadership of the new President, ITC member, Dr. Lori Barber.
|
". . .With a firm belief that education is a 'journey of transformation', a venture that expands beyond textbooks and the classroom walls, Barber, who took on the role of leading CEI in August of last year, sees the ASE certification program as a “mixing and marrying” of both credit and non-credit opportunities for students.
'This is such a novel way to approach getting someone the knowledge, skills and abilities they need,' she said. 'Because this program is considered non-credit, if the students decide to come back and want to pursue an associate’s degree in auto mechanics, all of the training they have done with the ASE certifications will then go right into that degree as credit for prior learning.'
For small businesses nationwide, and particularly in Idaho, where the Gem State was recently ranked as the No. 1 state for small business growth, innovative educational programs such as this can help transform today’s workforce and those of future generations. . ." FULL ARTICLE HERE
