National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

  • 29th: National Prescription Drug Take Back Day – Opioid abuse is at epidemic levels in the U.S. and remains a top public health concern. This take-back day aims to reduce the expired, unwanted and unused medicines in order to help reduce accidental or intentional overdoses or illegal abuse of prescription pills. There are currently three locations in Sierra County where unused prescriptions can be disposed of:
  • the Sheriff’s substation at 61050 CA-49 Loyalton, Behavioral Health Building at 704 Mill St. Loyalton, and
  • Sheriff’s station at 100 Courthouse Square, Downieville.
  • Each location has a ‘no questions’ policy and everyone is welcome to dispose of their unused prescriptions. All pills need to be in Ziploc bags without bottles and without labels.
