1) Prospecting for Members - Every Chamber and/or Membership Organization is on the lookout for new members. Chambers, like other organizations, use a variety of strategies and tactics to approach new members. Everything from cold-calling, email, social media, direct mail, list purchasing, etc. are employed by Chambers to attract new members, or get former members to re-up. What strategies have you and your Chamber used to gain access to potential new members. Can you give us some examples of a strategy or strategies that have worked for you? What is the most challenging objective to Chamber membership you have encountered and how do overcome that resistance? What's your biggest success story in recruiting a new member? Do you have a Membership Manager, and, if so, how is this person directed to solicit new members?

2) Working With Boards - Board of Directors are the backbone of most Chambers and/or Membership Driven organizations. In a perfect setting, they set policy, review the Chamber's finances, create annual budgets and guide the direction of the organization, both operationally and strategically. In your mind, what is the ideal size board for a Chamber of Commerce and what should the make-up of the board in terms of personality, industry representation, and geographical area? Some board members take a more active role in Chamber activities. From your perspective, what is the preferred role of board members? What challenges have you faced in working with board members, etc.

3) Retaining Members - Every business and organization relishes and rewards repeat customers. Chambers are no different. Retaining members is on-going process that requires much care and feeding by Chamber staff, board members and ambassadors. What approaches, strategies and tactics have you used to maintain a consistent renewal rate for your Chamber? What is the optimum renewal rate, Chambers should be shooting for? From your perspective, what are members asking for from Chambers that Chambers may not be delivering?

How important are these events to the Chamber's image in the community and to the Chamber's bottom line?
