The Situation Report by Joshua H. Silavent (05/14/11)
SPARKS — The struggles of American war veterans have come to light in recent years with the Iraq and Afghanistan era of soldiers returning home.
But there is another generation of veterans facing great challenges. This is a perpetually overlooked and forgotten class of heroes, admonished as they were while in the armed service and pushed aside for decades after to mend battle wounds on their own.
“I think that’s something we’re going to continually owe an apology for,” said Eddie Floyd, a local radio personality and host of Nevada Matters, of the way Vietnam veterans have been treated.
Many Vietnam veterans are now entering their senior years without access to the health care resources they need, particularly those soldiers exposed to Agent Orange and its cancerous aftermath.
“There’s big problems with the vets all over this country,” said Bob Primeaux, president of the Reno chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America.

RENO — Eddie Floyd, host of Nevada Matters radio talk show, has recorded the first ever “The Last Wild Place,” a new weekly radio talk show all about Western Nevada, hosted by Lacy J. Dalton and Willis Lamm.
Lacy J. Dalton is known worldwide as a country/western singer who lives near Virginia City and is also known for being a wild horse advocate, along with her co-host and fellow rancher, Willis Lamm.
The weekly show will host several prominent guests from the entertainment world, as well as Nevadans who share mutual concerns, including, but not limited to, entertainment, job creation and tourism while concentrating on northern Nevada for its thrust.
“I am working with many others across this nation to save Nevada’s wild horses, and everywhere I go to hold a concert or other event, there is tremendous interest to help,” Dalton said. “I had been interviewed several times by Eddie on his past Nevada Matters show and love this opportunity to reach out to Nevadans with this new show named after one of my songs.”
The show was taped in front of a live audience at 1301 Cordone Ave. in Reno, where Dave Asher of the Reno/Sparks Local Business Co-Op invited Floyd to host this as well as his other interviews for Nevada Matters programming. Floyd’s show is heard primarily on Evans Broadcast stations, 99.1FM Talk, and M
