You are invited to join several of your colleagues (yes, registration is brisk!)...

KeepItQuerque Member Forum (Warning; Skip Lunch!)
Thursday, October 22

You can share "Best Practices" with other KeepitQuerque Members at our October Forum.

Rather than bring in an "Expert From Afar" we're going to tap some of the wisdom of our local Success Stories;
  • Gary Opedahl will give us a quick rundown of CABQ Eco Devo Initiatives over the last year
  • Wyatt Wezrgyn of Bookworks will share the advantages of belonging to a Trade Organization and how the Booksellers are leaders in the local movement. We will provide more details on speakers as tehy confirm but we plan to discuss Buyers' Groups and Effectively Positioning Your Local Value against the internet.
  • Baillio's will send a Team member to share how their membership in a Nationwide Collaborative Buying Group helps them stay competitive on price and inventory
  • Duane Kinsley of Sport Systems (recognized as one of the top 100 bike stores nationwide) will share his In-Store Marketing Methods to combat "Show-rooming" and demonstrate why "Local" is a better value than the internet.

  • You and Your KeepItQuerque Kolleagues will share the mic and share your Best Practices and/or seek solutions to challenges

It's a good day to skip lunch because locally owned restaurant ICON Scarpa's and Cooperage will cater! Served from three o'clock to six o'clock we'll enjoy
  • Marinated, Grilled Medium Rare Top sirloin wrapped around Tr-colored Peppers
  • House Smoked Fresh Salmon in Puff Pastry with Dill sauce
  • Oak Smoked Chicken Quesadilla with Avacado Salsa Fresca (Working station)
  • Chipotle BBQ Meatballs
  • Mini Caprese Skewers
  • Wild Mushroom Duxelle in Pastry Tartletts
  • Hot Artichoke & Spinach Dip with Bagel Chips
  • Greek Salad Bites ( on Cucumber )
  • Colored Tortilla Chips with Queso & Salsa Fresca

Are you following the Institute For Local Self-Reliance?

For forty years the Institue For Local Self-Reliance has been at the forefront of efforts to make our communities stronger.

There is so much we need to share with people about why our Local Businesses are important to support and the ILSR is a great source.  Have you hearde of "Dark Stores?"
In Case You Missed Our Last Issue...

Our feature about the new "dark store" tactic that big-box retailers are using to slash their property taxes has had a huge response, sparking online debates and generating action. In Michigan, the epicenter of the issue, lawmakers are planning to introduce legislation to address one aspect of the tactic, noting that not only is it bad for cities and their residents, but also unfair for local businesses. Meanwhile, however, the strategy has continued to spread across Indiana and into Alabama.

Other titles in this newsletter include
  • Procurement Can Be a Powerful Tool for Local Economies, but Takes More Than a Policy Change to Work
  • Authors Call for an Investigation into Amazon's Monopoly
  • Glass-Steagall Is Becoming a Key Issue in the 2016 Campaign
The more you understand why the "10% Shift" is so important to our community the better you'll be able to share it with your friends, family and colleagues.
