Upcoming Events; Have you heard about our September 17th Luncheon with Gary Oppedahl?

We Need YOU! Board Nominations Coming Up...

KeepItQuerque serves our members at the same time we serve our community - by encouraging folks to KeepItQuerque - buy local.

As a member supported organization you are encouraged to participate - in fact the more you participate the faster we can create the "Ten Percent Shift" to buying local - and begin to serve Local Businesses through advocacy, training and more.

So, let us know if you want to be on the board, if you'd like to be on a committee, or if you know of someone who share our mission for creating a self-reliant community.

Keep an eye out in September for the Board Nomination request - and be thinking of what KeepItQuerque needs in the meantime.

Training for your team is available!

Did you know that the Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau - who bring millions of dollars into Albuquerque every year - also offer customer service training?  We missed it today, but here's what they offer;

New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science

If you want to know more about how the ACVB drives money into our community check out their newsletter here.

You asked for an extension and you got it!

Many of you were disappointed not to have been able to register to hear Gary Oppedahl's address to the membership on September 17th at the Hotel Albuquerque at Early-Bird prices.

So we extended the Early-Bird pricing!  But only through the 25th of August!

Are you an Actor in the Albuquerque Scene?  A Director?  A Stage Hand?  Will it be you singing the final Aria?

Whatever your role in our community Gary Oppedahl will share with us how we can all join in "Making A Scene in Albuquerque!"

Walkability Increases the Health of a Community

Clifton Chadwick

Jeff Speck was recently in Albuquerque for the third time - and I had to miss it!

The worst part was that Mr. Speck had visited Albuquerque before precicely so he could make reccomendations about how to increase Walkability in the downown area. Jeff Speck presented his recommendations for making downtown Albuquerque more walkable to the public on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

You can see the video of reccomendations here, and slides to go with the video here.

Farm to Table - does it get more local?

Nothing is as Local as food grown in our neighborhood, our town, our county or our state.  The Food and Ag Policy Group is encouraging the use of Local Ingredients in our schools and other institutions while simultaneously supporting the growers, thus creating a system where demand and supply go together.

Indeed, restaurants like B2B Bistronomy and KeepItQuerque member Slate Street Cafe can often tell you the name of the ranch where their beef coms from - or the name of the farmer whose produce is in the salad.

An outstanding way to find out more is at the Harvest Dinner to be held at Farm & Table; "Gourmet fare combines with good-cause fundraising for the annual Harvest Dinner of the Rio Grande Agricultural Land Trust. Aimed at celebrating the preservation of farms and wildlife habitat in the Middle Rio Grande, it will be held on Sunday, Sept. 14 at Farm & Table, 8917 Fourth NW, beginning at 5 pm and running  until about dark."

While the average meal currently travels upwards of 1500 miles, these local producers, processor and consumers are engaged in an important part of ensuring Local Self - Reliance. And enjoying far tastier fare!

TED Talks, not Ted Talks!

If you haven't heard about TED Talks yet, then we're pleassed to let you into one of the most amazing idea sharing groups of any time.  And TED (Technology, Education, Design), whose motto is "Ideas worth spreading," has indepedent TED groups known as TEDX(insert community name here).

TEDxABQ has presented some awesome talks, among many this on by New Mexico USDA Rural Development State Director Terry Brunner  on "The secret of thriving rural communites," in which he points out how that secret applies to the many communities that make up Albuquerque.

In addition to teh many TEDxABQ Salon events held throughout the year, each September TEDxABQ presents the annual event at Popejoy Hall.
This year, to kick of the September 6th "Whispers & Roars" event TEDxABQ is having a TEDxABQ Scavenger hunt with prizes including one iPad Mini to a random entry on Facebook, a second one on Twitter, and runners-up will win tickets to TEDxABQ 2014.

This is the year to become part of TEDxABQ, curated by Tim Nisly and completely manifested by volunteers - this is community!

In fact, you might care to volunteer yourself! It's a great way to be part of something all Albuquerque can be proud of - and see the show!
