La Montanita coop has been "local when Local wasn't cool," to paraphrase a song.

The Coop is supporting KeepItQuerque.  You'll see them on the back of the new directory and you'll see KeepItQuerque in the Coop Connection for the next several months.

Did you know the Coop now has four Albuquerque locations? Whether you live near Nob Hill, Rio Grande, Westside or UNM the Coop makes it easier to buy local in your part of twon, as well as in Santa Fe and Gallup!

Check out the May Coop Connection online or pick one up at the store!

Things are going to start happening now!

KeepItQuerque - buy local! Directory to hit 105,000 homes this weekend!

This weekend the 4-page print version KeepItQuerque's directory will be delivered to approximately 105,000 upscale single family homes in the Albuquerque area.

Look for the May issue of New Mexico MarketPlace Magazine in your  mailbox. From Placitas to Bosque Farms your directory will be delivered to the most upscale neighborhoods, based on home values and income levels.

Although we weren't able to reach every recipient of New Mexico MarketPlace (total delivery including the East Mountains, Rio Rancho, Corrales and Bernalillo is 175,000 homes) your directory make it's biggest impact in KeepItQuerque history.

The principle function of the directory is to provide phone numbers and addresses to folks so they can confidently "buy local" by choosing from among our members.  Of course there is information about why we should make the "10% Shift" and every page has the KeepItQuerque.org website so your online directory listings should see some new visitors!

The latest from our friends at the Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau

Are you aware of the efforts of the Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau?  This "enterprise" organization is charged with bringing Business and Pleasure Travelers to Albuquerque.

"So far, for fiscal year 2014, the ACVB has booked 48,000 room nights, beating its goal of 41,000, and doubling last year’s totals of 24,000." Not only does the ACVB invite people from around the world to bring their money to the Heart of the Great Southwest, they also provide information to help us "vacation at home!"

"The ACVB’s immediate push, however, is to launch the new ABQ365 page, a comprehensive calendar of everything happening in the city.

ABQ365 is Albuquerque’s daily source for what to do: from a comprehensive calendar of events to an engaging blog written by Albuquerque residents,” said Tania Armenta, vice president of marketing, communications and tourism at ACVB. “With more and more people using social media and other online tools, target audiences are blending. The ACVB decided to expand its reach to target both visitors and residents.”

ACVB offers you "Shared Advertising on United Airlines - and more!

One of the many benefits of collaboration is the opportunity to create a greater marketing buzz - and the Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau offers plenty of opportunities to do just that.  If you like the tourists to visit your business you might consider these options;

Amstar & Relax at 2801 Yale Blvd SE - right at the "door" of the airport - is offering KeepItQuerque - buy local members  their corporate discount!

FasTPark and Relax was started in Albuquerque and the family that owns it is from here so, even though they're operating from another state, they want to support KeepItQuerque.

Next time you travel and need to leave a vehicle at the airport consider enrolling in the FasTPark "Relax for Rewards" airport parking plan. There is no charge to become a member and you'll get a great rate to park.  If nothing else, this way less of your parking dollar leaves town!

Collaboration is on the Rise! ShareNM.org helps everyone help everyone

Clifton Chadwick

When Elisa Breitbart and several of her colleagues in retail initiated the Albuquerque Independent Business Alliance back in 2003 they were able to see over the horizon.  They saw how important Local, Independent Businesses are to our economy and to our community while most folks were to busy to notice.

In the wake of the financial devastation wrought, in no small measure, by those "Too Big To Fail" organizations that, simply put, failed us all, many are realizing how important our relationships with each other are.

The United Way of Central New Mexico, The Albuquerque Community Foundation, the CNM Foundation, the Santa Fe Community Foundation with help from some of the big corporations and philanthropists have come together to create a single platform for collaboration.  In other words, they collaborated in making collaboration more effective.

Please take a look at www.sharenm.org, a community platform designed to bring together data from several sources to allow you, me and anyone to find the right services.  Whether you are looking for Grant Money or a place for your underage pregnant niece to find support and information you can probably find it at ShareNM.org!

Localists Everywhere are Uniting!

KeepItQuerque is just one of many members of the American Independent Business Alliance.

Our membership with AMIBA allows us to share best practices with other Buy Local initiatives - and to share their discoveries with you.

Your KeepItQuerque will be sending representatives to AMIBA's Go Local, Grow Local coming up in May.

"The AMIBA Conference is a MUST! I...[absorbed] so many great ideas to carry back to Shop Local Raleigh. We've put many of them into action here: great strategies to build our membership, engage with the public, focus our Social Media, create real value for our business members, and so much more. Plus, after meeting IBA leaders from all across the continent, we're never more than a phone call (or a tweet) away from solutions.

We know there is so much to gain from so many IBAs sharing so many ideas"

-- Mark Weldon, Board Member, Shop Local Raleigh
