The Buy Local movement is just one example of how the business paradigm is shifting. There was a time when the big providers like Procter & Gamble would use the Big Three TV stations to direct us to one of the principle chain stores. Now we now live in an age when we can to find almost exactly what we want when we want it and, to a lesser degree, where we want it anytime. Of course, as independent business owners we have just as much difficulty reaching consumers as anyone else. There's no question Social Media use is on the rise by our customers and businesses alike, but it was Heraclitus who first pointed out (nearly 2500 years ago!) "nothing endures but change," and that certainly is the case with Social Media. Our friends at AMIBA are staying on top of things and sharing what they know with us. According to Alex Kelsey, a marketing specialist with AMIBA, "Facebook just began offering the capability to search for hashtags, bringing the tool to a wider audience." In her article "Hashtags Come to Facebook! #SoWhat?" Alex goes on to point out "For example, if Ourtown IBA wanted to get out word about a happy hour special during a weekly Music on Main St. event, they could post, “Want a great deal while you listen to live music?
