The Albuquerque "Multiplier..."

How far does a dollar go when you "buy local?"

You may have read here or elsewhere that a dollar spent nationally ripples though a local economy and becomes $1.11, and a dollar spent locally typically returns at least three times as much and, in some communities, more than five times as much!

Every community has it's unique nature (the preservation of which is just one reason to "buy Local!") so it's natural to ask what the Albuquerque Multiplier is.

What's Albuquerque's Multiplier?

A Message from ABQ CashMob

After generating more than $800 in just a couple of hours in June our colleagues at ABQ CashMob are going to take a break for July.  Here's what they said on their Facebook page recently;

"Hello CashMobbers! We will not be having a July event. This will give our organizers and regulars a chance to relax and recharge for the next event. And it is the Fourth of July weekend, so many people will be busy.

We hope you continue living locally, spend the next month seeking new, local businesses and supporting old ones. If you're hosting a party for the Fourth, buy everything locally. If you're visiting somewhere else, support their community and buy locally. And if you find any great new places here in ABQ, please share them. We will be keeping up our web presence and post on Facebook where some new local businesses are."

This is great advice - especially the part about supporting the Local Economies where you travel.  While traveling out of town the comfort of a familiar brand often offsets the disappointment associated with their delivery.  Remember, just as the area around Albuquerque has so many wonderful alternatives, so to do the communities you'll be visiting this summer.

You can plan ahead for your trip by looking for Independent Businesses here.

"Independents' Week" from July 1 through the 17th

The Star Spangled Banner, hot dogs, hamburgers, cherry pie.  The Fourth of July is  an American tradition that reminds us of our separation from an oppressive, distant regime that wasn't effectively serving our interests.

What a better time to start your Revolution against the homogenized national chains!

Once again, across this great nation, Local Communities are celebrating Independents' Week.

While "Independents' Week" doesn't generate a long Wikipedia listing  Google has more than enough information to help you with your celebration.

In city after city organizations like KeepItQuerque.org are encouraging folks to buy their Hot Dogs and Hamburgers at places like Tully's or Keller's, the buns from Golden Crown Panaderia or Bosque Baking Company and their cherry pies, too!

One of the most powerful sources for who's local in Albuquerque is the directory at KeepItQuerque.org.  From the main page you can click through to the directory and search for something like "catering" where, among other members, you'll find the listing for the Seasonal Palate.

If you want to get office supplies from a local provider just search "office supplies" and you'll find Sandia Office Supply and Midway Office Supply Center, among others.

We hope you'll use Independents' Week as teh way to begin a new habit - the "Buy Local" habit of giving your neighbors the first opportunity to do business with you, rather than spending your hard-earned money with "an oppressive, distant regime that doesn't effectively serveg your interests!"
