Do "Buy Local" campaigns work?  In January of 2008 the Institute for Local Self-reliance noted "As major chains report weak holiday sales, a nationwide survey of 1,382 independent retailers has found that a desire to support locally owned businesses is emerging as a factor in people’s shopping choices." In the 2013 Survey the results continue to point to greater success in communities with a "buy Local" movement. "Once again, independent businesses located in cities with a highly visible "buy local first"campaign run by a local business organization outperformed those in cities without such a campaign. "

With so many economic variables outside our control it's good to have an alternative we, as individuals, can control.
