Beer Makes for Better Communities!

In an article from the San Jose Mercury News (Craft beer trend helps rebuild neighborhoods)  Heather Sommerville's report on how brew-pubs are "energizing redevelopment efforts in West Oakland  could be about Albuquerque New Mexico!

"It's a movement that carries the promise of revitalizing neighborhoods that have been lost to violence and disinvestment. Breweries are a magnet for new businesses, encourage people to bike and walk in the area and create a "social ambience" that helps to stamp out crime, said Margot Lederer Prado, senior economic development specialist for the city of Oakland."

The same realities that are at work "from Portland to Boston" are at work in the Duke City - which shouldn't surprise any Beer-buff (we're recognized nationally for our distinctive "hoppy" beers) - and might surprise many folks who haven't seen the lively food-truck-cum-live-music-cum-bicycles scene at KeepItQuerque - buy local member Marble Brewery at (yes,) Marble and 1st street just off Lomas, or at La Cumbre on Girard about two blocks north of Candelaria.  Both of these breweries are deep in industrial sections of town and both are jumpin'!

And, just as in Oakland, with Albuquerque's craft brews many local restaurants are serving up the local brews which means you have another option to help KeepItQuerque - ask for a Marble next time you're out to dinner!
